This guide offers basic help for using various citation management systems in addition to answering frequently asked questions and providing NYU-specific information.

M365 - back up your EndNote libraries

EndNote is not compatible with any cloud storage folders such as OneDrive or iCloud. To avoid potential issues, do the following to have a working backup of your EndNote libraries:

  • Compress your EndNote libraries.
  • Transfer the compressed EndNote libraries to your OneDrive for easy access and back up.
  • If you encounter any difficulties, contact the HSL Library and MCIT Support.
  • Do NOT save any working EndNote desktop libraries on OneDrive - to avoid the risk of corrupting files, save compressed copies of libraries only.
  • Consider using EndNote web as an additional back up location. More informationNote that certain features are not available in EndNote Web, such as the "Find Full Text" feature.
  • Do not use the OneDrive version of Microsoft Word to insert and manage EndNote citations. You can use Google Docs or the locally installed version of Microsoft Word to insert citations. Documents with inserted citations can be saved in OneDrive but these documents will need to be downloaded to your desktop to be edited with the Cite While You Write feature.
