This guide offers basic help for using various citation management systems in addition to answering frequently asked questions and providing NYU-specific information.

Exporting from EndNote

Exporting to Excel

The information in an EndNote library can be exported to a Tab Delimited file, which can then be imported into Excel.

1) In the EndNote program, go to the File menu
2) Choose Export…
In the Export options:
3) Set “Save file as type” to Text File (*.txt)" or Text Only
4) Make certain to set the output style to “Tab Delimited".
5) Uncheck “Export Selected References” if you wish to export the entire collection.
6) Save this file.

Next, open Excel:

1) go to the Data menu > click From Text/CSV (in MacOS, first click Get Data (Power Query)) and select the saved.txt file to import
2) Click Load

Exporting to Covidence/RefMan/other screening tools

1) Select the articles you wish to export.
2) Select File > Export
3) Save as type: RIS or XML
4) The resulting file can be uploaded to import in your screening tool
