This guide offers basic help for using various citation management systems in addition to answering frequently asked questions and providing NYU-specific information.

Find and remove duplicate references

If you are importing references from multiple databases or searches, there may be overlap within your library. To find and remove duplicate references:

1. Select All References

2. From the Library menu, select Find Duplicates

3. EndNote will display a dialog box where you can compare duplicates and decide which version to keep and which to delete. For each record you want to save, select Keep This Record. Duplicates of that record will then be moved to the Trash folder.

4. To skip manual comparison of all duplicate records, select Cancel to automatically select the most recently entered versions of each duplicate reference for removal. You can then drag selected records to the Trash folder.
